Virginia Tech vs. Nebraska in my words....

We all travelled down to Blacksburg for the Nebraska game. This was billed to be a great game. Tech was favored by 5 points but that was mostly for home field advantage.

Evan went to the tailgate spot at 7:30 am (keep in mind this was a 3:30 kickoff) to get our normal spots along the road etc. I stayed with Travis and we got ready etc. He and I went to Hardee's for breakfast-he is now a big fan of the cinnamon sugar biscuit holes-lol. After breakfast we headed over to the bookstore to take a look around. Travis decided he wanted a jersey like Daddy so we looked at those. I thought the ones there (in his size) were a little cheesy so we went downtown to the Campus Emporium to look there. We did find a better jersey there-#5 of course and he wouldn't take it off so I had to cut the tags off in the store. :)

Next up was grabbing a few last minute things at Kroger and then off to the tailgate spot! We got there at around 10am. Thankfully Travis had a blast playing football and the Hillbilly Horseshoes game. Around 2pm we headed over to lot 1 to see Aunt Jane and Uncle Alan. On the way there we ran into Doug/Christine/Kristen/Chris and Colin! We chatted with them for a bit and then kept moving to Lot 1. We always know we have found them since they have a huge spread and a TON of people! Travis enjoyed drinking a cream soda that Aunt Jane gave him and shortly we had to head into the stadium.

On the way into the stadium we saw this huge terminator type Hokie thing. Travis wanted his picture taken with it and thankfully he was on Evan's shoulders since this person was on stilts! The lines were crazy long to get into the stadium but that is what you expect for a big game. We got to our seats about a minute before the jumping began. :) Travis was SO excited when we got to our seats! The game started off very exciting with a long run from the opening kickoff-followed by a touchdown. After that though the game was kind of boring. There was a lot of back and forth and Nebraska was kept out of the end zone at least 5 times. Then...

With a few minutes left it looked like we were done. On 4th and 9 the ball was DROPPED. The air whooshed out of the stadium. People started to leave. Then Nebraska went 3 and out (with tech taking their time outs along the way). Oh.....my.....god.....we were going to get the ball back with 1:19 left to play. This is when my memory gets fuzzy since it was so unbelievable. I don't know what the down was but Tyrod was in trouble-running around in the backfield and then found Coale open at around the 20 yard line. He CAUGHT THE BALL and ran to the endzone. THE STADIUM WENT CRAZY. People were screaming/yelling/crying you name it. Everyone thought Coale had scored. They reviewed it and saw he hadn't so it was now 1st and goal on the 3. Then Tyrod got sacked-big time. People were starting to freak out again since it seemed so close yet so far. Then with about 10 seconds left Tyrod found Roberts standing in the endzone. The Hokies couldn't believe what had happened and neither could Nebraska. They did get the ball back but their pride had been hurt and the game was over. Wow. This game will go down in Tech history as one of the best endings to a game EVER. I'm sure it was cool on TV etc but live it was AMAZING. People flooded the field. It was a great win.

After we left the stadium we headed back over to Aunt Jane and Uncle Alan's before we headed back to our spot. At some point in the parking lot we found a storm trooper Hokie guy. Travis thought this was the coolest thing he had ever seen. When we got back to our spot Travis and Colin played football and ran around until Colin had to get in the car and head home. It was a great ending to a great football weekend and we all hope to repeat this next weekend when Miami comes to town.
