Lego show

Over the summer on a complete whim I decided to take the kids to the Lego show at the Dulles Expo Center.  Mandy, Charlie, Annabelle and Paxson came with us too!  (Evan was at Lollapalooza that weekend)  Wwe waited in a HUGE line but thankfully the line moved super fast---it was at least 200 people deep but it only took about 10 minutes to get in the door once it opened.

The kids all loved looking at the Legos--Brody was infatuated with this one huge dusplay of levers etc with tiny basketballs and soccer balls.  Every time we tried to look at something else in the room he would eventually make it back there.  I bet if I had just left him there he would've still be at that display 30 minutes later!  lol

A good time was had by all and next year I will be sure to get the pre-order tickets and save a few dollars and a little bit of time.  :)

Annabelle, Brody, Paxson and Travis in line

We made it in!

The little ones loved watching this pirate ship go around and around

He loved this football stadium display

This was on the way out--I couldn't get Brody to get in there with him

735 pieces put together is less than 2 days

Travis got this Lego for his birthday from Gramma and Grampa.  He had it 100% completed by Tuesday night and that is with being at school all day Monday and Tuesday, going to the mall Monday for haircuts and a baseball game on Tuesday night!  He truly is the Lego Master.

White house is done!

I knew Travis would finish the Lego White House today and he did....about an hour after he got home from hockey camp.  LOL

Lego machine

Travis is a Lego building machine.  He built this Star Wars ship and this Space Shuttle in about 90 minutes after getting home from hockey camp.  Then he started working on the White House which he is still working on.  I expect it to be finished tomorrow.  ;)

Easter baskets at Gramma at Grampa's!

The Easter bunny was very busy this year and he left some baskets for the boys at Gramma and Grampa's house!  (he also left some eggs but those pictures will be in another entry)  Once again Brody wasn't really sure what was going on but Travis sure did!  :)

Brody sure does love his Grampa!

He had fun playing with all of the plastic egg parts on the floor.  ;)

They are doing something on the iPad.

Annabelle and Brody are watching the news?  Where are the Backyardigans and/or Thomas?

Annabelle really digs into her basket!  Mine!  :)

Travis was very excited about his new Harry Potter Legos!  I don't think he even knows what else was in there!

Trying to get a picture with Brody.....giant FAIL.

Who me?

Ninety two?!?!

That is the number of Lego sets that have entered our house in the past few years. NINETY TWO. Why did I count them/how do I know? Travis wanted to keep the instruction books and they kept falling out of the cabinet. So earlier today when I saw them falling out yet again I decided to get them down to organize them but then I felt compelled to count them as well. Here is a picture of the book pile-you can see a LOT of Star Wars ones. ;)

Travis' Lego table-aka his Lego dumping ground

This is one of the 2 shelves for some of his larger models.

Last spring I decided to try and organize the Legos out of the big boxes and into the drawers. The two drawers you see here are for flat and "block" pieces. I emptied 2 of the 4 large bins and got sick of the project as you can see.

I also attempted to organize the massive quantity of people and people parts. A very good idea and looked great when I first did it but of course Travis doesn't keep to my "sorting system". In case you want to do this as well-I got this container and the one down below at Michael's in the jewelry making section. (it has 2 sides btw you flip it over and it has the same number of compartments on the other side)

Same thing here except these are those little pieces that are connectors etc that always end up at the bottom of whatever bin your Legos live in.

One day maybe the Lego area won't look like a bomb went off in it. I just can't wait for the day when both boys can play with the Legos together and I can be doing something else. :) I currently spend most of my time fishing errant Legos out of Brody's mouth. :)

An unhealthy Lego obsession--lol

Travis LOVES building Legos. Somehow he convinced my Dad he had to have this AT-AP walker thing that by the way isn't made anymore. Well of course my Dad found it for him--I mean that's what Grampas do-right? He was more than thrilled when it came in the mail while he was at school yesterday. He wasn't thrilled that I made him do his homework before opening it but once that was done and the box was open it took him all of about 2 hours to build it. Wow.

Presents? It's not our birthday!

Travis loves seeing Gramma and Grampa! Well he loves it for many reasons but one of them is Grampa always wants to take Travis to Toys R Us! So on this trip they both got a few things but here are two of them....Brody got a stuffed Woody doll which he loves and Travis got a Star Wars Lego tie fighter that he put together in a matter of hours! They are lucky, lucky boys!

Travis is building some Lego cars--shocker I know. :)

Brody is showing off his "pulling up" skills!

All 4 Lego cars were completed in the 1st 30 minutes we were here! LOL

Day 2 at the beach....no rain but not much sun either

We started out day 2 with the kids going to the beach to dig. This was bc the red flag was up so NO swimming in the ocean. The kids weren't happy with it but oh well. It was very windy, cloudy, and chilly-maybe 70 outside. Almost all the adults were in long pants and shirts and the kids were still wearing bathing suits. Brrrrr! I assume the digging kept them warm.

After a few hours it was lunch time and after lunch the kids played Wii, Legos etc. At some point we got a surprise.....the SUN came out! We hadn't really seen the sun since we got here so that was nice! The kids all hit the pool and "hot pool" for a few hours of waterlogged fun! Later we went for a pre-dinner walk on the beach. Of course all the kids brought their shovels in case they wanted to dig along the way. ;)

We had a great spaghetti dinner and then it was time for the kids to go to bed. Then boys all went to sleep with no troubles.....probably all the digging finally tired them out. :) Then the adults stayed up late listening to music and just some general goofing off! Enjoy the pictures!

Travis is at Grammy and Poppy's!

He got in the car without a fuss yesterday morning to head down to NC for a few days! This was his first adventure there without us so we weren't sure how it was going to go. I got a report today that the car ride went really well-he chatted with Grammy the entire way there! Apparently they counted police cars on the highway and saw a total of 10-there were 9 in VA and 1 in NC. The ones in VA all had pulled people over-no shock there. They stopped for lunch and Grammy gave him the choice of McD's, BK or 5 guys. She was shocked when he chose 5 guys! He ate an entire cheesburger/fries and somehow had room still for a "brownie explosion" from DQ! Man he must be going through a growth spurt! Once they got to their house he was quickly inside and started building the Lego set that Grammy had waiting for him. Grammy thought it was a dump truck but Travis quickly corrected her and told her it was a pumper truck! After dinner last night, Travis and Poppy went out to the golf course behind their house with his clubs to get in some practice. He loves going out there. We were wondering where he would sleep since he normally sleeps upstairs in the bedroom next to us. Well last night he slept on an air mattress on the floor in their room and apparently slept like a rock---well until 6:30am! :) Stories to be continued......

Koz and Kristin get married!

We left our house at 7:30 to start our adventure to Richmond for Koz and Kristin’s wedding. Travis was great the whole way there except we had to listen to his Star Wars movies the whole way there. Once we got into town we had some time to spare so we went over to Target to get a drink and some lotion for me since I forgot to put some on before we left. After that we piled back in the car and headed over to Evan’s old neighborhood so Travis could see the house he lived in when he was in high school. Travis thought it was neat but the best part was watching Evan’s reaction when he realized the people had painted the house yellow (it used to be white). He must have said it 10 times in about a minute. Later I found out this was a topic of conversation to him since he spent part of his summer one year painting it white for his parents. Now I know why he was taking the new yellow color of the house so personally! :)

When we got to the church it was time to get Travis dressed for the ceremony. He wore the coat for about 5 minutes but I do have a picture to prove he did wear it. Thankfully he made no fuss about the pants and the shoes so I was taking it as a “win”. Walking into the church Travis automatically turned into a shy little boy and was hiding behind me until we got to our seats. I brought a new Lego set (an Anklesaurus I think) for Travis to construct while we were in the church. It was a Catholic wedding so I wasn’t sure what to expect time-wise. He put his Legos together and was quiet so that was a “win” also.

Next it was off to the reception.....it was at a hotel nearby-I think it was a Sheraton. We found our names on the table and were at table #12. The name cards were actually a set of glass picture frame coasters which were a very cute gift idea. The other people at table 12? Well we had Kramer, Robb, Erin, Hood, us and Ann Marie! This could get interesting--lol. I brought yet another new Lego set (a jet) for Travis to build while we were at the table waiting for lunch etc. This worked out in general but it took forever for our table to get a chance to get to the buffet so Travis was done with his jet when it was our turn-oh well. No shocker Travis wanted nothing to do with the food and ate 3 strawberries for lunch. I didn't fare much better since everything had stuff in it I don't like so it was a huge plate of fruit for me!

After we ate Travis was getting restless so I took him to the patio area out back. He had fun running around, looking at the bugs and trying to climb the lightpole! Eventually almost all of the tuba people ended up outside as well. This is when the real fun began. ;) The group got together and sang their infamous song "I wanna kiss her butt". Now this is an innocent song that they made full of double entendres years ago. Every time they made the kiss sound and said "butt" Travis was howling with laughter. This was mostly because he isn't allowed to say "butt" in our house. :) After that song the tubas stood for many pics to be taken and somehow Travis ended up in these pictures as well. Then someone had an idea to say "look at the UFO" so they would all point in the distance...this started Travis on a "where? I don't see a UFO....WHERE?" Somehow I convinced him they were kidding. lol

Next it was the time Travis had been waiting for.....CAKE! They had a cute grooms cake made with a Marvin the Martian holding a tuba in Hokie colors. It was to cute. Travis HAD to have the tuba cake! Eventually he did get a piece....so he had 3 strawberries and a piece of cake. ;) Unfortuantely at this point it was time for Evan to sing....for those that haven't witnessed this it is interesting.....After many glasses of wine he asked the band to let him sing "Love Shack". It is a little scary how well he does the Fred impersentation! Pretty much after that it was time to leave......it was around 5:30 at this time. I got the pleasure of driving home of course.... ;)

Congrats to Koz and Kristin!!!
