But about an hour later......

He was running ALL OVER the golf course!  Talk about a 2nd wind!  ;)  Travis, Daddy and Brody all hit some golf balls and they all had a good time. Hockey has really improved the strength of Travis' swing.  Who knew?   Brody even got a mini golf lesson on how to swing.  lol  And as it was all weekend.....Giggy went with us.

Travis is at Grammy and Poppy's!

He got in the car without a fuss yesterday morning to head down to NC for a few days! This was his first adventure there without us so we weren't sure how it was going to go. I got a report today that the car ride went really well-he chatted with Grammy the entire way there! Apparently they counted police cars on the highway and saw a total of 10-there were 9 in VA and 1 in NC. The ones in VA all had pulled people over-no shock there. They stopped for lunch and Grammy gave him the choice of McD's, BK or 5 guys. She was shocked when he chose 5 guys! He ate an entire cheesburger/fries and somehow had room still for a "brownie explosion" from DQ! Man he must be going through a growth spurt! Once they got to their house he was quickly inside and started building the Lego set that Grammy had waiting for him. Grammy thought it was a dump truck but Travis quickly corrected her and told her it was a pumper truck! After dinner last night, Travis and Poppy went out to the golf course behind their house with his clubs to get in some practice. He loves going out there. We were wondering where he would sleep since he normally sleeps upstairs in the bedroom next to us. Well last night he slept on an air mattress on the floor in their room and apparently slept like a rock---well until 6:30am! :) Stories to be continued......

Blueberry muffins, boat trip, fishing, the pool ,more golf and blueberry pie!

In case you haven't noticed all of the blueberry references....the other day we got 2 flats of fresh blueberries at a blueberry farm. Hence the muffins this morning for breakfast which were fabulous (the crystallized sugar on top made them great) and the blueberry pie for dessert tonight. We will be taking back a few pints of the blueberries with us so I'm sure a few blueberry dishes will be in our future.

After breakfast we packed up our stuff and headed out to Poppy's boat. He has a 34 foot Taiwanese trawler. They used to have a sailboat but it just got to be too much work so a few years ago they sold their last sailboat and bought the trawler. It took us about an hour to get out to the city of Washington and Al radioed in to the dock to have them help us tie up the boat etc. After we got off the boat we headed over to the Estuarium. We have been there before but Travis really likes checking out the turtles that hang out by the dock there. At that point it was almost time for lunch so we wandered over to Pia's. Everyone had a great meal....Al and I had the Ruben, Evan had the grouper sandwich, Jamey had the Thai chicken wrap and Travis had the grilled cheese! Once we were officially stuffed we headed back to the boat. About half way back to the marina we stopped in the water to give Travis the opportunity to fish.....this attempt didn't work out too well.....

When we got back to the marina Poppy said there was a spot by the kayaks that was good for fishing. After he closed up the boat they headed over there to try and fish there. About a few minutes in Travis caught something! They reeled it in and it was a FLOUNDER! He was so excited but no surprise he didn't want to touch it! Poppy got it off the hook and threw it back in the water. A little while later he got another bite and this time it was a CRAB! Except as soon as it was out of the water the crab jumped off the hook and started running around on the dock. This is when Travis started yelling and jumping around to try and get away from the crab. Something tells me the crab was as scared of Travis as he was afraid of the crab! At some point he did catch another crab but this one never got out of the water. That is when they got tired of fishing and called to get picked up.

The next item on the agenda was going to the pool for a quick swim! Jamey and I took Travis over to the pool. He had a blast jumping in and showing Grammy/Jamey how he could swim. Well he doesn't swim but he paddles very nicely! Eventually we all got out of the pool and headed over to the Bait shop to get ice cream for the pie. This place was a little scary. Worms next to the milk and people smoking in the store. Good times! We had yummy bratwurst for dinner and we had some delicious blueberry pie for dessert! At one point after we ate Travis and Poppy went out back to play more golf. He has gotten a lot better in just the few days he has been here.

Not too shabby.,.....

On the road to Grammy and Poppy's!

We left around 7am today to get on the road for the 5+ hour drive. Thankfully this is about the time Travis goes to school so it wasn't too hard to get him going in the morning. After about an hour and a half on the road Evan couldn't stand Travis running his mouth anymore so we stopped for breakfast....for both breakfast and to give Travis his meds! :) We stopped at Chick Fil-A and that was exciting to Travis because of the playground and exciting to me since I love the Chicken Minis. When we piled back in the car Travis watched a bunch of movies. I think it was "Spongicus" and "Clone Wars". Once the movies were over-we were almost here!

Jamey, Travis and I headed into town to run a few errands and visit with the people down at the POG (Purpose of God). The POG is a religious based group and the people in his parents neighborhood volunteer over there all the time. Travis was there when he was a baby and they all wanted to see him again. The people that work there are all so nice. They have 57 kids in the daycare/summer camp type program there all run by a person the call "The Bishop". Travis wouldn't talk to anyone when we first got there but the Bishop won him over. Next thing I know he is getting candy and going back to the game room with him! The Bishop taught Travis how to play Foosball-Travis wasn't very good at first but he got the hang on it in the end! Later we went over to WalMart to pick up a few things and Travis asked for and got a mask and snorkel-he was so excited!

Travis opened his birthday gifts and got a VT/UVA checker set and a red Cypress Landing Yacht Club shirt with his name on it. The shirt is just like Al's so hopefully he will wear it on the boat tomorrow! After a great dinner of brisket, green beans, missy potatoes and fruit salad we took Travis out to the golf course to hit the ball on the 17th green. He loved it! It was his first time on an actual course. Video to come in another post. Hopefully he is going to sleep soon....full day tomorrow!

Can you believe it? Sunday was even busier?!?!

I had another doctor's appointment on Sunday morning so Mandy and Charlie came over to watch Travis while I went. Thankfully the wait at this office wasn't bad at all.....it took me about 20 minutes in the office total. Before I left I told Mandy "the wait today will be really short because I'm bringing a book to read in the waiting room." Well there was zero wait so I guess I should bring a book more often!

When I got back to the house Tammy had gotten there too and we started talking about what we should do for the day. A lot of different ideas got tossed around but finally it was decided we would start with mini golf at Woody's and the driving range afterwards for Travis. We all piled in the Volvo and headed over there. This golf course is revered in the area for being the best mini golf....there aren't too many in the area of course but that is their claim. lol We got to the course and the 1st hole went well-Travis got a 3! When we got to the 2nd hold all was well until someone walked towards the hole and this box started to rattle around. That was enough for Travis-he wouldn't get any closer! It was all a jungle theme and the box had a "tiger" in it. There was also a komondo dragon that was hissing next to the box-nothing could get him to budge. I even tried to skip to another part of the course but hole 14 had some pretend bee sounds and he ran out with his hands on his ears......we left Tammy and Mandy to play the course while we went to the range.

Poppy got Travis his own set of clubs for his birthday last year. We got them out of the car along with 2 of Evan's clubs for me to play with. It was nice of them to refund our two tickets for the mini golf and I used most of the refund for a jumbo bucket of range balls. Travis picked a spot for us to play and we started up! I was rusty but hitting the ball pretty well. Travis hits the ball almost every time he tries and sometimes it goes a really long way for a little guy! We both had a lot of fun and I got a bunch of good pictures and a really funny video of him trying to hit the ball and ended up spinning around and falling down-it was the only time he did that and we were all trying not to laugh.

After golf we got back into the car and decided we should head over to the Reston Zoo. Travis and I went there for the 1st time last year and really enjoyed it-especially feeding all of the different animals. Tammy and Mandy hadn't been there and I'm not sure if either of them will go back-lol. Tammy washed her hands a bunch while we were there-lol. We got a cup of feed and a baby bottle for the goats. Last time we only got a bottle and the first goat drank the whole thing so we learned our lesson on that. Once we saw the monkeys, parrots and turtles first and then it was off to the goat area. I have no idea what other kinds of goats there are but it's funny to see them all basically climbing the walls and bleating etc to get your attention to get fed. Travis loved feeding them the food and the bottle. I think this is one of his favorite parts of the Reston Zoo. We went on the wagon ride where you see some of the bigger animals and have the chance to feed them as well. Tammy was freaked out by the ostrich-lol. In her defense it is a little creepy up close...they have HUGE eyes! Travis kept trying to talk to the guy driving the tractor-every time he started it up he would say "I like your hat" but of course he couldn't hear over the noise of the tractor. After many failed attempts (all while the tractor was on) he finally told him about his hat when we got off the wagon. :) When we went into the reptile house we were greeted with a big surprise...the guy that worked there had the tarantula out of it's cage and was letting it walk on him-well it was stuck on his back where he couldn't reach it. Mandy offered to help him (I was all about staying away) and finally someone else came to help from the Zoo. I did ask him if he was afraid it would hurt him and he said "no she won't bite me"....yeah right that's what they all say before they are bitten! ;)

It was almost 2pm at this point and I realized we hadn't had lunch yet! We all headed over to Wendy's because Travis wanted ice cream with his lunch and he vetoed McDonald's since we had it the day before. I think we all enjoyed our meals and then headed over to Michael's since Mandy wanted to get a frame for a puzzle she and Charlie had done. Unfortunately the frames that were the right size were all damaged. Then we headed over to Toys R Us....not my idea-lol and Travis looked mostly in his favorite section...Legos. I told him no Legos today but he could look at the outside toys and I may get him one. He quickly zeroed in on a large toy speedboat and since it was only $3 I said that was fine. It's a perfect boat for the pool since it's too large to end up in the skimmer basket.

Mandy had some work to do so we drove her home and then Tammy left from our house when we got back. Travis wanted to play some more outside (even though we had been outside for 4+ hours at this point) so I offered for us to walk over to the elementary school to play on the field and the playground. He wanted to bring his football too-so we did. Travis had a bunch of fun and even saw a few friends when we were there. Keira, Katherine and Jackson were all there at some point and Travis enjoyed playing with them. We went home and I promptly put Travis in the shower since he was soooo dirty! Dinner and bedtime and we both crashed hard that night!
