Psych visit......

Earlier in the week we had a Psychologist from the county come out and evaluate Brody. For those that may not know this is just another step in the long process that is "child find" with Loudoun County. Basically they are determining what services (if any) he will be eligible for in the fall. Right now he is receiving speech therapy twice a week from the "early intervention" group of the county. Brody could be eligible for nothing in the fall, speech therapy "x" times a month, preschool in the county school system 5 days a week or anything in between. His eligibIlity meeting is in early May--that is when we should know.

The lady that came out to evaluate him was nice and she was at our house for about 2 hours. Part of the time she was asking me questions about his history etc and the other part of the time she was playing with him. Certain games with toys she brought that showed his thinking ability, mobility and how he plays etc. The first thing she pulled out was a puzzle. Brody LOVES puzzles. He was a whiz at this shape puzzle. The problem then was that she wanted to move onto the next "test/game" but Brody wanted only to play the puzzle. Eventually she coralled him back and he did some of the other games/tests. In the end she said she saw some delays. I can't remember what exactly she said he was delayed in though.....

I will get her report a few days before the eligibility meeting. Brody has his speech/language assesment next week and that is the final visit for us--then the psychologist, social worker and speech/language people get together to determine what services he is eligible for. This process is a PITA but it will be well worth it to get Brody the services he needs. :)
